Life is Unpredictable

I’m posting devotionals that originally appeared on my group Facebook page by the date of the reading.

April 7th

“We all know life is unpredictable. The unexpected diagnosis, the lost job, the lost love. Things rarely, if ever, turn out the way we think they will or should. For various reasons, in unexpected ways, life messes up our plans, and that can make us feel unhinged and directionless. What we were counting on evaporates before our eyes, and we’re left empty-handed and empty-hearted.”

— Live in Grace, Walk in Love: A 365-Day Journey by Bob Goff.

COVID-19 … need I say more? We all face surprises in life – some good and some bad. I don’t particularly care for surprises at all. Do not EVER throw a surprise party for me. I’ll leave!

I need to remember that I’m not in control – I can make plans and do my best to keep those plans but God drives the bus of life and I’m a rider. I can be a happy rider and go with the flow or I can be a pain and unhappy with every twist and turn on the path I’ve imagined. I look back at my life and I can say THANK YOU LORD!

Why? Because some of my greatest disappointments and heartbreaks led me to greater happiness in the end. Also I’ve learned from my mistakes – I believe God brings disappointments and shortcomings to push us to learn and GROW!

I’m not happy when things don’t go my way – I like to be in control. The difference is now I see the hand of God at work and look for a learning experience OR a blessing coming my way. COVID and quarantining has not been fun, but I’ll remember the good times Lance and I shared working at home together, healthy and safe. As Lance says “bonus time!”

Look for the bonus times in life. Enjoy your ride on the bus – it’s nice letting someone else drive while you’re enjoying the scenery.
